Acronis True Image is a long-established player in the disk-backup arena, with a large user base, a long history of upgrades and new versions and upgrades, and an ever-increasing array of features. The latest version, True Image Home 2009, is the slickest-looking yet, with a wide range of backup and safety features built in. But I'm reluctant to recommend it, because its advanced features made one of my test systems unbootable, and even when it did install and work correctly, some interface quirks led to an insidious gotcha where the program leads you to believe that it will back up some of your files—but then doesn't actually back them up at all.
